Steiermark is located in the southeast of Austria. In area, it is the second largest of the nine Austrian states. It borders Slovenia as well as the other Austrian states of Upper Austria, Lower Austria, Salzburg, Burgenland, and Carinthia. The capital city is Graz and the area is rich in local history. Italy, Slovenia and Hungary are easily accessible by car (3 hours).
In winter Schladming is a popular ski area forming part of the largest ski alliance in Europe, the Salzburger Ski Amade with 860 km of slopes on 1 pass. The Dachstein Glacier is the furthest Easterly Glacier in Europe at just 2700 meters (open summer and winter). The city of Salzburg is the 50 minutes by car, with Graz 2 hours and Vienna 3 hours drive away.
By Air
Schladming is approximately a one hour drive (90km) or a one hour train journey from Salzburg airport which is served by several low cost airlines including, Ryanair, Easyjet,Thomson Fly, and Flybe. There is also a daily scheduled British Airways service, as well as charter flights from UK, Germany, Netherlands and the Skandinavian countries during the ski season. A bus runs to Salzburg Main Railway Station every 10 minutes from the airport during the day. Other destinations in Austria with direct flights from the UK are, Ryanair to Linz, Graz and Klagenfurt and Easyjet to Innsbruck. Lufthansa and Easyjet also fly to Munich and Austrian Airlines to Vienna.

Austrian Railways
Several direct express and regional services are available from Salzburg main railway station to Schladming daily. The route takes approximately one hour and is very picturesque as it passes through the mountain scenery.There are also connecting routes from Vienna, Graz, Innsbruck and Munich and many other international destinations.
By Road
Approximate driving time to Schladming from Calais (1194km 10 hours), Munich airport (235km 2.5 hours), Graz airport (2 hours), Innsbruck airport (265km 2.4hrs) and Vienna (292km 3 hours).
Bus/Taxi Services
There is no need for a car in resort, and the ski buses run to all the local mountains as well as the glacier, these are all free with your ski pass. We can recommend Reisen-Habersatter Airport Shuttle who offer an online bookable return service direct to the apartment from Salzburg airport for 53 Euros (30 Euros one way).

On the Autobahn (A8) to Salzburg, then take the autobahn (A10), to Altenmarkt, followed by 18 km along the B320 Ennstal Valley highway to Schladming. From Vienna
On the Autobahn (A4,A1,A23,A2) to Liezen, followed by 50 km on the B320 Ennstal Valley Highway to Schladming.
For motorway driving in Austria, your vehicle must display by law an Austrian Motorway Toll Sticker" These are available from garages at all border crossings. A 10 day pass currently cost Car €8.00 Motorbike €4.60
